Maintaining the Library

Updating the Library via File > Maintain Library periodically, will speed up the database if it has grown very large, and eliminate some of the clutter that may exist within. It does so via the following options:

Create Multi-Artist Albums

This locates all Albums and associated Tracks that have a common Album name, but different Track Artists. This usually occurs when some sort of typo has occurred, or if an Album is a compilation by multiple artists, but hasn't been designated as such. It help you re-organize these Tracks into compilation albums. This can also be accomplished by Editing Album Properties.

Remove Unused Artists

This removes any Artists that no longer contain any Tracks or Albums.

Remove Unused Albums

This removes any Albums that no longer contain any Tracks.

Check for Files on Virtual CDs

This verifies that any files saved to the Virtual CD haven't been deleted, and removes them from the database if they no longer exist.

Check for Preview Files

This verifies that any Previews that have been created haven't been deleted, and removes them from the database if they no longer exist.

Compact Database

This cleans up the internal structure of the database in order to improve performance.

Retrieve Moved/Missing Tracks

If Tracks have been moved by another application to a new location, MediaMonkey will only find the Track if the File Monitor is configured to monitor the directory to which the Track has been moved. For other cases:

  1. Go to /Library/Files to Edit/ Dead Links in the left hand pane of the MediaMonkey Explorer. You will see a list of Tracks that are inaccessible because they have either been moved or deleted.
  2. Select the Track(s) you want to find, and click File > Retrieve Moved/Missing Tracks .
  3. Choose which drives you would like to scan for the Track.
  4. A dialog will appear showing moved files that have been found, files that haven't been moved, and files that couldn't be found. Of those that have been found, select the check box next to them to confirm that you want to update the library with the location indicated.
